‘Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”’ Matthew 8:23-27(NLT)
‘But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?’ Psalms 56:3-4(NLT)
Does it seem like you’re in the midst of an uncontrollable, life-threatening storm right now, fearful of the coronavirus outbreak? Fear can be like a massive wave of water ready to consume you, rocking your boat. Fear, like a giant wave, can be powerful and relentless. Did you know that the calmest place to be when you’re in the midst of waves is underneath the wave? It doesn’t matter how big the wave is above the surface, the water is going to be the calmest at the bottom.
Jesus is like the calm water beneath a wave. He is the calmness that can remove your fears. As a matter of fact, Jesus was just that when He was on the boat with the disciples. The disciples became fearful as the sea roared, while Jesus slept peacefully in the boat. They begged Jesus to do something, as they focused on the storm.
Before Jesus calmed the storm, He asked the disciples, who were lacking in faith, “Why are you afraid?” God has the power over every storm in your life, so keep your eyes focused on Him. When you feel overwhelmed, have faith that He has the power to bring you through the storm.
