Love God Greatly: Fear & Anxiety – Day 11

‘So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.’ Romans 8:1-4(NLT)

In moments of fear or anxiety, we sometimes experience guilt for our fears. Well-meaning friends encourage us to have more faith, which only make us feel worse. Shame and frustration begin to thwart our pursuit for authenticity and peace.

Scripture offers encouragement for when we condemn ourselves for our fears. In Romans, Paul reminded the believers of the freedom we have through Christ. There is no condemnation for anyone who belongs to Jesus. These are words of life and hope. God is not waiting to charge and judge us for each misstep. Out of His lovingkindness He sent His Son to set us free from sin and death. Therefore, we can go to Him whenever we feel fear.

How have you experienced thoughts of condemnation or shame because of a season of fear or anxiety? Were you able to use that experience to draw closer to Jesus? The Lord wants us to come to Him as we are.

Father God, thank You for giving me the freedom to approach You. I praise you for Your unwavering love. Thank You for Your Son, who died on my behalf. Help me see Your favor toward me when I condemn myself or feel condemned by others. May Your Spirit continue to guide me on the pathway to peace. In Jesus’ name, amen.
