‘“Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you. For they all know that my disaster has come from the hand of the Lord . For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.’ Job 12:7-10 (NLT)
‘“He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us. For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ ‘ Acts of the Apostles 17:24-28 (NLT)
Have you ever held a tiny baby in your arms? I recall the words of an old song: “He’s got the whole world in His hands.” Can you imagine God, holding all of Creation tenderly in His arms?
As the verses of Job tell us, even the animals know this, as do the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea. The heavens proclaim the glory of God, after all, displaying His truth, proclaiming Himself. We, all of us, everything He created, are His offspring, and He holds us in His hands.
And why does He do this? As Paul preaches in Acts, it is so that we might seek Him, so that we might reach out for Him and find Him…for He is not far from any of us.
Oh, what wonderful truth, proclaimed by both Creation and Scripture: He is here. God is here, right here.
Will you reach out your hands and rest in His presence, today?
