The Heavens Declare the Glory of God

‘The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat.’ Psalms 19:1-6 (NLT)

On a too-hot summer evening, I sat outside in the dark, trying to quiet my racing mind and troubled spirit. As I cried out to God my eyes began to open to the world around. Trees, shrouded in darkness, towered above my head. Far in the distance, stars twinkled, hanging in the sky like ancient diamonds. Much closer to me, fireflies lit up the grass as they called to each other with flashes of light.

Even on this night, so dark outside and within my spirit, glimmers of light invite me to come alive, invite me to find the Creator and Sustainer of all things, present, here, always.

The Psalmist writes that the heavens declare the glory of God, but are we listening? Do we remember how to look, to see, to seek

Where do you see creation pouring out truth and knowledge of the Creator, as the Psalm says? Where can you see and hear this truth today?
