Depression From Compromise

‘“This is what the Lord says: Because of what you have done, I will cause your own household to rebel against you. I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view. You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.” Then David confessed to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord .” Nathan replied, “Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won’t die for this sin. Nevertheless, because you have shown utter contempt for the word of the Lord by doing this, your child will die.”’ 2 Samuel 12:11-14 (NLT)

‘Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” ‘ Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NLT)

‘Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh’s daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites. The Lord had clearly instructed the people of Israel, “You must not marry them, because they will turn your hearts to their gods.” Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway. ‘ 1 Kings 11:1-2 (NLT)

Don’t let society rob you of what is most important in life. Say no to compromise, and say yes to the principles of God.

Ignoring God’s Word led Solomon to a compromised life, and he became depressed. Against God’s advice he married women from nations that worshipped many false gods. He knew he was compromising, and he paid for his mistakes with his life. At the end of Ecclesiastes he says, “Remember your Creator.” Solomon started well but departed from God and ended up with regrets and depression.

David also compromised when he committed adultery, inviting depression as a generational curse. David’s sin multiplied and ended up cursing his children’s lives. Even though God forgave David of his sins of adultery, with Bathsheba, and the indirect murder of her husband, Uriah, David lost four sons as the consequence of his disobedience to the Lord.

Do your own assessment about sin in your life, and take action to repent and obey the Word. God wants to give you supernatural rest when you are stressed and depressed. Start meditating on the Word of God to be healed from your depression.
