Overcome – Day 2

‘For my life is full of troubles, and death draws near. I am as good as dead, like a strong man with no strength left. They have left me among the dead, and I lie like a corpse in a grave. I am forgotten, cut off from your care. You have thrown me into the lowest pit, into the darkest depths. Your anger weighs me down; with wave after wave you have engulfed me. Interlude You have driven my friends away by making me repulsive to them. I am in a trap with no way of escape.’ Psalms 88:3-8 (NLT)

The author here seems defeated, deflated and more than a bit over it. Have you ever felt like that? Christians are not promised an easy path, rather we are promised that God will be with us along the way – through the deeply difficult seasons as well as the good ones. It doesn’t always feel like that though, and here we see someone at their lowest. They are not praising God – they’re not even praying – but they are still talking to him, telling him how they feel and leaving it at that.

How does this passage of Scripture make you feel?

Prayer: God, thanks that you hear me, even when I’m deep in despair. Amen.
