Love God Greatly: Fear & Anxiety – Day 5

‘Then, turning to his disciples, Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear. Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing. And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? ‘ Luke 12:22-26(NLT)

‘I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”’ John 16:33(NLT)

Part of the human condition is feeling the need to control our life and circumstances. We toss, turn, and lose sleep when life is not going the way we think it should. Jesus reminded His disciples that living with anxiety about the future is a lack of faith in Him.

When a rich, young ruler decided not to give up his wealth and follow Jesus, Jesus instructed His disciples on what was truly important in life. Life as a follower of Jesus is not about comfort: it is about making His name known. When we live with the goal of making Jesus’ name great, He will provide for our needs. Our Heavenly Father will always provide for us the same way He always provides for the birds.

God longs for us to know how much He cares for us. We can trust him to provide for us. His provision may not look like an abundance of money in our bank account or a big house, but He promises to meet our needs.

In what area of your life is it hard to believe God will provide? He wants to take care of you. When we look to Him rather than to earthly answers, the path suddenly becomes brighter. How might you seek Him first rather than worry about the future?

Father God, Thank You for Your goodness. Thank you for loving me so much that You already know Your plan for my life. Help me trust You by giving up my wants and desires so I can focus on You and your kingdom. Build my faith so I may seek you more. In Jesus’ name, amen.
