Love God Greatly: Fear & Anxiety – Day 18

‘God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight. He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds. He created the horizon when he separated the waters; he set the boundary between day and night. The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke. By his power the sea grew calm. By his skill he crushed the great sea monster. His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent. These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?”’ Job 26:7-14(NLT)

‘Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. ‘ Matthew 28:18(NLT)

Many of us have gone through times when the grip of fear has seemingly choked out all joy in our lives. Fear causes us to stop doing things we enjoy. It can cause us to neglect important relationships. Fear can have great power over us if we let it control our days.

To combat the power of fear, we must recognize that God is more powerful than fear. When Job was in the midst of his affliction, the Lord reminded Job of His great power in creation. Even when Job was powerless over his circumstances, God remained in control.

When have you felt powerless over a circumstance in your life? When we face difficulties in life it is easy to feel like Job. Placing our hope and our trust in God’s power and authority gives us strength to fight our fears.

Father God, thank You for Your power. Forgive me for the times I doubt. Help me see Your power through creation and in my life. Thank You for how You are continuing to work in my life for the good. Amen.
