‘But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord ; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord , have spoken!’ Isaiah 54:17(NLT)
‘The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.’ John 10:10(NLT)
‘Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.’ 1 Peter 5:8-9(NLT)
As believers, we face a spiritual enemy who seeks to destroy us. The adversary does not lie in wait, but rather, hunts down his prey like a hungry beast.
Though we have an enemy who aims to harm, we do not have to fear. Jesus warned His disciples of the devil, but He gave them (and us!) the greatest weapon in the fight: Himself. Jesus conquered the enemy. He lived, died, and rose again so we could experience life without fear of the enemy.
We have a responsibility as believers to guard against the schemes of the devil. 1 Peter 5 reminds us we are to be self-controlled and alert. While the threat is strong, our defense is stronger. God has given us the ability to resist the enemy and to stand firm in our faith.
The next time you feel anxious, try to remember that even though the enemy wars against us, God holds the victory. How can knowing the truth of God’s Word help you in times of fear?
Father God, thank You for sending Your Son to give me life. Thank You for giving me a battle plan when the enemy strikes. Give me the strength to stand firm in my faith even when I feel weak. Amen.
